Steps
Go to https://cfpub.epa.gov/oarweb/woodstove/index.cfm?fuseaction=app.search (the Room Heaters search) for wood stoves and pellet stoves.
Search by manufacturer name, model name, or appliance type (catalytic vs. non-catalytic).
Review the returned performance data: emission rate, heat output, efficiency, and CO value.
Check the certified fuel type field and whether the unit is flagged as meeting the 2020 'Step 2' emission limit under the 2015 NSPS (40 CFR Part 60 Subpart AAA).
If a model isn't found, retry with the manufacturer name alone, since EPA records model names verbatim and typos return no results.
Known gotchas
This database now lives under EPA's Compliance program (epa.gov/compliance/epa-certified-wood-heater-database), not the old 'Burn Wise' brand — the Burn Wise consumer site stopped being updated on October 30, 2025 and is now a historical record only; don't cite Burn Wise as the active source for certification data.
Central heating appliances (furnaces, outdoor wood boilers/hydronic heaters) are NOT in this search — use the separate Central Heaters search instead.
