Steps
Confirm the Indexing API is documented to support only two content types: pages with JobPosting structured data and pages with BroadcastEvent embedded in VideoObject
Restrict URL_UPDATED/URL_DELETED notify calls to pages that actually carry one of these two schema types
Do not use the Indexing API as a general-purpose faster-crawling tool for ordinary articles or products, despite it technically accepting any URL
Monitor Search Console for manual actions or reduced quota if submissions are flagged as spam
Use 'ask Google to recrawl' via URL Inspection or sitemaps for all other content types instead
Known gotchas
Google has stated it may stop processing unsupported content submitted via this API without notice, and repeated misuse can lead to reduced trust or revoked access
Widely-circulated tutorials and scripts use the Indexing API for arbitrary pages; following them risks your account's standing even though it appears to 'work' short-term
Indexing API quota is account-level, so misuse by automation can jeopardize legitimate JobPosting/BroadcastEvent submissions too
