Register as an INTTRA eVGM shipper and obtain credentials for the eVGM submission portal or API endpoint
Calculate the VGM using either Method 1 (weigh the packed container) or Method 2 (sum of cargo items, packaging, and tare weight) per SOLAS regulation VI/2
Populate the eVGM submission with booking number, container number, VGM value in kilograms, weighing method, and authorized signatory
Submit via the INTTRA eVGM web interface or structured message and obtain a submission reference number as proof of filing
Confirm the VGM has been forwarded to and accepted by the ocean carrier before the vessel's VGM cutoff time
Known gotchas
SOLAS VGM cutoff is a hard deadline set by the carrier and is earlier than the documentation cutoff; missing it results in the container not being loaded
Method 2 (calculated sum) requires the shipper to have a calibrated weighing process certified by a national authority; an uncertified Method 2 submission is non-compliant
The authorized signatory name in the VGM submission must match the person registered with the carrier; a name mismatch can cause rejection
