Pull the current OCPI specification text from its public repository and confirm which version your roaming partner expects, since older deployments may still run a prior widely-used version
Implement the credentials module first to establish a mutual token exchange and registration handshake between your platform and your roaming partner
Implement the locations module to publish or consume charging location and connector data between the CPO and eMSP sides
Implement the sessions and CDR modules so charging sessions and their resulting charge detail records can be exchanged for billing and reconciliation
Implement the tariffs and tokens modules as needed so pricing and authorization tokens are correctly recognized across both platforms
Known gotchas
OCPI is a bilateral roaming protocol, so a working implementation on your side is not enough, you must also complete a registration and compatibility handshake with each specific roaming partner
Multiple OCPI versions remain in active use across the industry, so confirm the version your specific roaming partner supports before assuming the latest published version is universally compatible
