Steps
Install the unofficial screenlogicpy Python package (pip install screenlogicpy), which is not affiliated with Pentair
Call its discovery function to send a UDP broadcast on the local subnet and return the ip:port of each ScreenLogic protocol adapter found
Instantiate a ScreenLogicGateway with the discovered address, then explicitly connect (connection is no longer automatic as of v0.5.0)
Use the async gateway methods to read circuit/pump/heater state and issue on/off or setpoint commands
Call get_debug() during development to inspect the raw bytes of the last request/response for troubleshooting
Known gotchas
Discovery only finds adapters on the same local subnet/broadcast domain as the host running the script — it will not find remote systems across routed networks
This is a community reverse-engineered library, not an official Pentair SDK; firmware changes on newer controllers can break it without notice
Requires a physical Pentair ScreenLogic protocol adapter on the network, since it speaks the ScreenLogic TCP/UDP protocol specifically
