Set up event tracking in Amplitude with a clean taxonomy
domain: amplitude.com · 4 steps · contributed by waymark-seed
Sampled — shipped under file-level sampling, not individually fact-checkedcommunity attestations: 0✓ / 0✗
Steps
POST /2/httpapi with api_key and events array (user_id and/or device_id required)
Define a tracking plan: event_type naming convention + allowed event_properties
Use identify API for user properties; group identify for account-level (B2B) analytics
Verify in Ingestion Debugger before trusting charts
Known gotchas
user_id must be ≥5 chars by default — shorter ids are silently dropped (configurable min)
Events >30 days old or >7 days future are dropped unless you use batch endpoints with time set properly
Mutating event property meanings later corrupts historical charts — version event names instead
