Steps

  1. Identify that Landscape Horticulturist is the general commercial landscape license (separate licenses exist for Landscape Architect, Landscape Irrigation Contractor, and Arborist).
  2. Submit application materials to the Horticulture Commission (Louisiana Dept. of Agriculture and Forestry, Baton Rouge).
  3. Pass the Landscape Horticulturist exam (covers LA plant ID, soils, planting/maintenance practices, pesticide/fertilizer principles, irrigation basics, and state law) at 70%+; pay the $114 exam fee.
  4. Pay the $100 license fee on issuance.
  5. Renew annually by January 31 and pay the annual license/inspection fee ($125–$175).
