Confirm the technician has accumulated at least 1,000 logged rope access hours and a minimum of 12 months at the current level before Level 1-to-2 or Level 2-to-3 progression
Review the technician's IRATA logbook directly, since it must be produced on assessment day or the candidate cannot be assessed
Confirm which activities count toward logged hours (rope access work, related equipment inspection, rigging/de-rigging, related safety talks) versus training hours, which are recorded but generally do not count toward progression totals
Schedule the required minimum multi-day training period plus a one-day assessment for the new level once hour and time thresholds are met
Retain logbook and assessment records as part of the technician's qualification file
Known gotchas
Training hours logged during courses are commonly excluded from the hour totals required for progression - do not count course attendance itself toward the 1,000-hour threshold
A technician missing or unable to produce a logbook on assessment day cannot be assessed regardless of actual experience, so logbook custody should be confirmed well before the assessment date
