Steps

  1. Register for a free Basic developer account at developer.edamam.com to get an app_id and app_key
  2. Call the Food Database parser endpoint with the menu item or ingredient name to retrieve matching food entries and allergen/diet labels
  3. For a full dish, submit its ingredient list to the Nutrition Analysis (nutrition-details) endpoint for aggregated nutrition and diet/health labels
  4. For single raw ingredients, use the simpler nutrition-data endpoint instead of the recipe endpoint
  5. Cache results and respect the free-tier rate limit before scaling to a paid plan
