Steps

  1. Note that Medium's official publishing API (OAuth2, described in the Medium/medium-api-docs GitHub repo) has been deprecated since 2023; that repo was archived in March 2023.
  2. Do not apply for new API integration tokens -- Medium is not approving new API integrations as of 2026.
  3. If you already hold a legacy, previously issued token, treat it as unsupported best-effort -- Medium gives no guarantee or timeline for continued function.
  4. For distributing content to Medium today, plan on manual publishing through the Medium editor, or Medium's 'Import a story' feature to republish from another canonical URL.
  5. Re-check status.medium.com and the archived medium-api-docs repo periodically in case Medium reopens API access.
