Steps
Register an OAuth2 application at Bike Index and obtain a client ID and secret
Direct the bike owner, or the shop acting on their behalf with consent, through the OAuth2 flow to get an access token
Submit a bike-creation request with the required details, including serial number, make, and model
Include the access token on the request, since creating or modifying a specific bike requires authorization
Confirm the returned bike record and store its Bike Index ID for future reference
Direct customers to their own Bike Index account to manage visibility or ownership transfer going forward
Known gotchas
Endpoints that create or modify a specific bike require an access token — anonymous requests are read-only
Unauthenticated requests are rate-limited more aggressively than authenticated ones, so send a token even where it's optional
Registration data, especially the serial number, is what makes recovery possible — incomplete or malformed serials significantly reduce match quality later
