Steps
In the input's caption selectors, add a selector and choose Embedded as the source type for EIA-608/CEA-708 captions carried in the video stream.
For passthrough, create a single embedded captions selector so embedded caption tracks pass through unchanged.
For format conversion, create one captions selector per target language, setting the EIA-608 track number to select the correct CC instance from the input.
If the source may combine embedded captions with SCTE-20, set SCTE-20 detection to Auto so MediaLive prefers 608/708 but falls back to SCTE-20 when needed.
Attach the configured captions selector(s) to the output group's caption descriptions so the encoded output carries the caption tracks.
Known gotchas
MediaLive supports up to four caption selectors when converting embedded captions to per-language output tracks, so plan selector count around language requirements.
Passthrough and conversion are configured per selector rather than combined within a single selector.
Caption selector settings are validated against the actual input at channel start; a track number that doesn't exist in the live source produces missing captions rather than a configuration-time error.
