Steps
Use SBS Lookup to search for a producer and review the returned fields: license number, NPN, jurisdiction, license status, lines of authority (LOA), domicile state, and effective/expiration dates
For bulk verification, use SBS Report Generator, select search criteria, and review the row-based cost estimate shown before purchasing
Download the resulting report in CSV format for ingestion into an agency or carrier onboarding system
Use SBS License Manager if you need combined license printing, education-transcript, and e-mail-maintenance lookups in one search
Confirm the target jurisdiction's current tool set via SBS's own state-transition guidance rather than assuming legacy tools are still active, since jurisdictions moved to newer SBS tooling over time
Known gotchas
Reports are priced per row with a stated minimum charge per report — a broad, loosely scoped query can cost more than expected
SBS is the state-jurisdiction-owned system; NIPR's Producer Database is a separate, related system, so don't assume identical field coverage between the two
The education-transcript CE-compliance fields (e.g., whether a 'Date Compliance Met' is populated) determine whether a producer can currently renew — relevant if automating renewal/appointment eligibility checks
