Automate cycle count workflows via WMS API to maintain continuous inventory accuracy

Steps

1. Initiate a cycle count task via the WMS API: POST a cycle count request specifying the location IDs, SKUs, or zones to count, and whether to use immediate mode (auto-approve adjustments) or deferred mode (require approval before posting).
2. The WMS generates count tasks and, if integrated with warehouse control systems (WCS) or mobile devices, pushes tasks to scanners via the Cycle Count Task Info interface; workers count physical inventory and submit results through the device.
3. Receive count results via the WMS cycle count submission endpoint: each record contains location, SKU, lot, counted quantity, and unit of measure.
4. In immediate mode the WMS auto-adjusts on-hand inventory; in deferred mode the system creates pending adjustment records for a supervisor to review and approve before inventory is updated.
5. Query the cycle count results endpoint after task completion to retrieve counted vs. system quantities and variance reports; export variance data for GL journal entry or shrinkage reporting.
6. Schedule recurring cycle count jobs via the API using ABC classification logic — count A (high-velocity) items most frequently, B items monthly, and C items quarterly — to maintain high accuracy with minimal labor.
