Steps

  1. Obtain a WebKey via Login.gov and the FMCSA Developer 'My WebKeys' page as described in the QCMobile API getting-started guide.
  2. Call GET https://mobile.fmcsa.dot.gov/qc/services/carriers/name/{name}?webKey=YOUR_WEB_KEY with the URL-encoded company legal or DBA name.
  3. Add the optional start and size query parameters to page through results when a name matches multiple carriers.
  4. Inspect each returned record's DOT number and docket numbers to disambiguate similarly named companies.
  5. Cross-check the top candidate against a direct DOT-number lookup before treating the name match as authoritative.
