Confirm whether a SEPA Instant Credit Transfer (SCT Inst) payment is subject to a per-transaction amount cap under the 2025 EPC rulebook

Steps

1. Check the current 2025 SCT Inst rulebook (version 1.1, in effect since 5 October 2025) rather than the 2023 version, since the scheme-level maximum amount was removed
2. Confirm there is no longer a maximum amount set at scheme level for SCT Inst transactions; PSPs retain discretion to set their own transaction limits
3. Verify processing-time compliance: the payer's PSP, payee's PSP, and clearing and settlement mechanism together have a maximum of nine seconds from Time of Receipt to make funds available in the payee's account
4. Where a bilateral or multilateral agreement exists between participants, apply a shorter execution time than the nine-second maximum if agreed
5. Handle the exceptional-processing fallback: if the 10-second maximum execution time in the amended SEPA Regulation cannot be met, the payer's PSP must immediately restore the payer's account to its pre-transaction state
6. Confirm 24/7/365 availability, noting PSPs may schedule short, foreseeable non-availability windows for maintenance if customers are informed in advance
