Steps
Enable Places API (New) in Google Cloud Console and create a restricted API key
Call Nearby Search (places:searchNearby) with includedTypes set to electric_vehicle_charging_station
Use a field mask to request EV-specific fields alongside standard place fields
Read per-place EV charge options data for connector types and charging speeds where the place supplies it
Combine with the Place Details endpoint if richer amenity or accessibility data is needed beyond what Nearby Search returns
Known gotchas
Real-time plug availability is only populated for charging networks that share live data with Google; many listed stations only have static info
Nearby Search results are capped and rank-limited by distance/relevance, so covering a large area requires paging through multiple smaller search areas
includedTypes filtering requires the new Places API resource paths; the legacy Places API uses a different type taxonomy
