Steps
Confirm the 'Custom Apps' section is visible in your Kindful account settings; if not, email support@kindful.com to request API access
Use the Customer API (non-OAuth) documentation and Postman collections for building an integration solely for your own organization's use, as distinct from the Partner API (OAuth2) meant for the public App Directory
Generate the credentials required for the Customer API flow and authenticate requests per the developer portal's current auth guide
Use the documented endpoints to create/update donors and gifts, following the same general contact-then-gift pattern as other CRMs
If building an integration meant to be listed for all Kindful customers (not just your own org), switch to the Partner API and its OAuth2 flow instead
Confirm whether the target organization is being onboarded to Kindful's standalone product or to 'Kindful Fundraising Tools' as a Bloomerang add-on, since Bloomerang now sells Kindful's giving tools bundled with its own CRM
Known gotchas
Kindful was acquired by Bloomerang (originally 2021, reconfirmed in later acquisition announcements), and Kindful's donation/fundraising tools are now also offered as a paid add-on directly inside Bloomerang — but developer.kindful.com's Customer/Partner API still operates as a separate, independently documented API surface as of this writing
Two very different API tracks exist under the same developer portal — Customer API (single-org, non-OAuth) vs. Partner API (multi-tenant App Directory, OAuth2) — building against the wrong one wastes significant integration effort
Given the ongoing Bloomerang consolidation, verify with the client whether new integration work should target this Kindful API at all, versus building directly against Bloomerang's REST API v2 instead
