Steps
In the UniFi Access application, go to Settings > General > Advanced > API Token to generate a local API token and download the official API reference
Authenticate requests against your own UniFi Access controller's local network address using that token
Call the doors endpoint on the local controller to list managed doors and their current lock state
Send an unlock request for a specific door, optionally specifying a duration in minutes or Infinity to hold it unlocked until manually reset
Use the same local API to manage users, permissions, and unlock methods or schedules
Known gotchas
This is a local, on-controller API rather than a hosted cloud API — requests must reach your own Access controller's network address, not a public Ubiquiti endpoint
If no duration is specified, an unlock request defaults to a brief 2-second unlock, which may be too short for some workflows
The officially supported API is more limited than the fuller native protocol used internally; some settings changes on Access devices are out of scope for the public API
