Download the current OE/AAA External Web Services Guide PDF from oeaaa.faa.gov to confirm the exact public RESTful endpoint paths and required parameters (case type, date range, Aeronautical Study Number).
Use the public, non-authenticated OE/AAA REST service to search on-airport or off-airport cases by Aeronautical Study Number (ASN), or by case type and date range, for the crane's planned coordinates.
If no existing case covers the site, file a new off-airport construction/alteration notice through the OE/AAA web portal for structures that meet 14 CFR Part 77 notice-of-construction height/location triggers, including tall tower cranes.
Poll the same public REST endpoint by ASN to track the case status (circularized, determined, no-hazard-issued) as it progresses.
Record the determination number and any height limitation issued, and set the crane's maximum hook height accordingly before erection.
Known gotchas
Not every crane requires an FAA filing — Part 77 notice triggers depend on height above ground/airport elevation and proximity to airports/heliports; confirm applicability before assuming a filing is required.
