3. Treat the database as opt-in, not exhaustive: a technician's absence from the online listing does NOT mean they lack certification, since many certified individuals never submit the listing form
4. If the technician is not found in the online database or the listing lacks detail, ask for their certificate/wallet card and certification date, then contact ICRI directly (or check ICRI Member Central) to confirm active status
5. Confirm certification currency: ICRI states CSMT — Grade I certification is valid for a period of years from the pass date, with recertification via a written exam covering the same ASTM standards — ask for the most recent pass/recert date rather than relying on an original certificate date alone
