Documented steps
In the Railway dashboard, open your project and click the volume to open its settings.
Click Live Resize and follow the prompts to increase capacity.
Redeploy if required; the service continues running while the underlying storage expands and the filesystem auto-extends.
Verify the new size via the volume settings and `railway volume` / API volumeInstance currentSizeMB query.
Known gotchas
Live resize is available on paid plans (Hobby and Pro); free plans may not offer it.
Down-sizing is NOT supported — you can only increase capacity.
If a volume reaches 100% capacity, Railway performs an automatic offline resize for data integrity checks, which restarts the service (brief downtime).
Pro users and above can self-serve up to 1 TB per volume; larger needs require contacting Railway.
