Steps

  1. Go to TTB's Public COLA Registry search at https://www.ttbonline.gov/colasonline/publicSearchColasBasic.do.
  2. Search by fields such as permittee/brand name, TTB ID, or product details to find approved, expired, surrendered, or revoked label approvals.
  3. For a direct lookup of a known label, use the detail endpoint https://www.ttbonline.gov/colasonline/viewColaDetails.do?action=publicDisplaySearchBasic&ttbid=XXXXXXXXXXXXXX, where XXXXXXXXXXXXXX is the 14-character TTB ID for that COLA — note this is a different page (viewColaDetails.do) than the search form (publicSearchColasBasic.do).
  4. Review the COLA detail page, which includes the current status (approved/expired/surrendered/revoked) and, for electronically filed labels, an image of the approved label.
  5. Cross-check the label's current status before relying on it for compliance purposes — COLAs can move to expired, surrendered, or revoked after initial approval.
  6. For programmatic or bulk access beyond the public search UI, evaluate TTB's published dataset entries on data.gov ('TTB Public COLA Registry Search and Download') rather than scraping the search UI.
