Log in to Hightouch as an Admin user and create an API key from the Settings > API keys page — copy and store it immediately, as it is only shown once.
Identify the numeric sync ID from the URL on the sync's configuration page in the Hightouch dashboard.
Trigger the sync by sending a POST request to the Hightouch API trigger endpoint for that sync ID, with the Authorization header set to Bearer YOUR_KEY.
The API rate limit is 200 requests per 10 seconds per workspace — implement exponential backoff if triggering many syncs rapidly.
Poll the sync status endpoint or check the Hightouch UI to confirm the sync run completed successfully; the API reference at hightouch.com/docs/api-reference contains the full schema for sync status responses.
Known gotchas
API keys must be created by an Admin user — keys created by non-admin users will return an authentication error with the message 'No user found'.
Triggering a sync while a previous run is still in progress may queue the new run or return an error depending on the sync's concurrency settings.
The Hightouch REST API provides read/write access to all workspace resources — treat the API key with the same sensitivity as a production credential.
