Obtain Honorlock API credentials (client ID and secret) from the Honorlock partner dashboard and authenticate via OAuth 2.0 to receive an access token
POST to the exam creation endpoint with exam title, institution ID, allowed exam duration, and proctoring settings (webcam required, browser lockdown, allowed resources flags)
Note the returned exam_id and the LTI launch URL or embed token from the response
Configure the LMS quiz or assessment to point to the Honorlock LTI 1.3 tool launch URL using the exam_id, or embed the Honorlock session initiation URL in a course page
When a student launches the Honorlock-linked assessment, Honorlock's browser extension validates their environment and begins the proctoring session
GET the exam results or session review endpoint after the assessment window closes to retrieve proctoring flags, incident reports, and session recordings for instructor review
Known gotchas
Honorlock's proctoring requires students to install the Honorlock Chrome browser extension before the exam; API configuration does not automate extension installation — students must install it manually in advance
The LTI 1.3 tool configuration (platform registration, JWKS URL, redirect URI) must be completed in both the LMS and Honorlock's admin dashboard before any exam launch works — API-created exams alone are insufficient without tool registration
Incident flags from AI proctoring are for instructor review only; automated grade penalties based on flag counts require custom post-processing logic not built into the Honorlock API response
