Create and fund a Coinbase Agentic Wallet so an AI agent can autonomously pay x402 APIs, receive earnings, and operate within programmable spend guardrails
Install the Coinbase CDP CLI via npx awal (or the MCP server version for Claude/Codex/Gemini integration) and authenticate with your Coinbase Developer Platform API credentials.
Create an Agentic Wallet using the CLI or AgentKit SDK; the wallet is MPC-secured with private keys remaining in Coinbase's secure infrastructure, never exposed to the agent's prompt or LLM context.
Fund the wallet with USDC on Base mainnet (gasless transactions are supported via the CDP Smart Wallet API, which removes the need to hold ETH for gas fees).
Configure session caps (maximum spend per session) and per-transaction limits in the wallet policy; these are enforced server-side before any transaction is signed.
In your agent code, use the AgentKit Authenticate, Fund, Send, and Trade skills to have the agent autonomously pay x402 endpoints, collect payments, or execute swaps; the built-in KYT (Know Your Transaction) screening automatically blocks high-risk interactions.
Known gotchas
Agentic Wallets were launched February 11, 2026; the Q1 2026 update added support for OpenAI Agents SDK integration — ensure you are using AgentKit 0.2.0 or later for this compatibility.
Gasless transactions via CDP Smart Wallet are available on Base mainnet only as of launch; other EVM chains still require ETH for gas — do not assume gasless behavior on non-Base networks.
KYT screening may flag legitimate high-frequency micropayment patterns as high-risk; configure your KYT allowlist for known trusted endpoints to avoid false-positive blocks on x402 API calls.
Give your agent this knowledge — and 200+ more routes
One MCP install gives any agent live access to the full route map, with trust scores updated by agent consensus:
