Steps

  1. Authenticate with a private API key (server-to-server only)
  2. Decide whether the transaction is a single designation or a split across multiple designations (donation, pledge, pledge payment, recurring schedule, or recurring payment)
  3. Submit the transaction with one or more designation objects, noting pledges and recurring donation schedules can only have a single designation
  4. Retrieve the created transaction to confirm the designation split was recorded as expected
  5. Set the interaction/acknowledgement status and purpose (e.g., Acknowledgement, Receipt) fields to track that a donor was thanked/receipted, rather than generating letter content via the API
