Confirm current ESIP eligibility requirements on nabcep.org/certifications/energy-storage-installation-professional-esip, which as published require completion of an OSHA 30 Outreach Training Program (or state/provincial equivalent), a minimum of advanced energy-storage training hours, a documented decision-making role on storage projects, and a minimum number of project credits based on system size completed within the prior two years
If already an active NABCEP PVIP, apply the training-hour credit NABCEP grants toward the ESIP hour requirement rather than duplicating training

Known gotchas
ESIP is a separate credential from PVIP — a PV-only certification does not qualify someone to represent themselves as storage-certified, and vice versa
OSHA 30 completion is a hard prerequisite for ESIP application, not just recommended training — confirm the applicant's OSHA 30 card is current before starting the ESIP application
