Steps
Use the IEM's ASOS one-minute data request service specifying station identifier(s) and start/end date-times.
Select the desired one-minute variables (e.g. 1-minute wind, precipitation accumulation) supported by the NCEI one-minute ASOS archive that IEM mirrors.
Note coverage: US ASOS one-minute data is available from 2000 onward, and legacy Iowa AWOS one-minute data covers 1995-2011 separately.
Request output in the supported delimited/CSV format for downstream parsing.
For coarser (5-minute/hourly METAR-derived) ASOS data instead, use IEM's separate standard ASOS/METAR download service rather than the one-minute-specific endpoint.
Known gotchas
One-minute data is a distinct, higher-volume dataset from IEM's standard ASOS/METAR downloads — using the wrong endpoint gets you the wrong temporal resolution entirely.
IEM processes and mirrors NCEI's one-minute archive on a daily update cycle, so the most recent day or two may lag behind real-time.
These CGI-style request services can be resource-intensive for large multi-station/multi-year queries; batch requests by station or shorter date ranges to avoid timeouts.
