Steps

  1. Apply for the Electrical Sign Contractor license using TDLR form ELC-LIC-003 with the $110 application fee.
  2. Designate a Master Electrician or Master Sign Electrician of Record employed by (or owning more than 50% of) the business before the license will be issued.
  3. Obtain minimum liability insurance of $300,000 per occurrence, $600,000 aggregate, and $300,000 products/completed-operations aggregate, and submit the Electrical Contractor Certificate of Insurance form.
  4. Provide proof of workers' compensation coverage, a certificate of self-insurance authority, or file a notice of no coverage through the Texas Department of Insurance's Employer E-File system.
  5. If the Master Sign Electrician of Record leaves, notify TDLR and designate a replacement within 30 business days to keep the contractor license active.
