Steps
Confirm applicability: ANSI/TIA-758-B (published March 2012, still the current/active edition) covers customer-owned outside plant (OSP) cabling — i.e., cabling between buildings/points on a customer-owned campus, not carrier/telco-owned OSP.
Identify the distribution technique required by the site conditions: aerial, direct-buried, underground/duct, or tunnel — the standard covers pathway and space requirements for all four.
Design the OSP pathway to include everything from the building entrance point through to the terminating connecting hardware inside each structure.
Select cable/connecting hardware appropriate to the applications the OSP cabling must support (voice, data, video, alarm, environmental control, security, audio, etc.), since TIA-758-B is application-agnostic infrastructure guidance.
Apply the standard's OSP bonding and grounding requirements at each entrance point, coordinating with TIA-607 for the building-side grounding infrastructure.
Known gotchas
TIA-758 governs customer-owned OSP only — carrier-owned outside plant between a customer site and a public network is governed by different (often carrier-specific/NESC) requirements.
Direct-buried and underground/duct runs bring separate code obligations (depth of cover, conduit fill, marking/locating) beyond what TIA-758 itself specifies — check local utility and building code requirements too.
