Steps

  1. Authenticate to Space-Track.org and query the decay class for historical/predicted reentry records, e.g. /basicspacedata/query/class/decay/DECAY_EPOCH/%3Enow-30/format/json.
  2. For near-term reentry predictions, query the tip (Tracking and Impact Prediction) class instead, which carries predicted decay time and a ground-track latitude/longitude.
  3. Add /MSG_EPOCH/%3Enow-1/ (decay) or /INSERT_EPOCH/%3Enow-0.042/ (tip) to only fetch messages generated since your last check.
  4. For an object re-entering within about 12 hours, TIP may be polled as often as every 10 minutes per Space-Track's guidance; otherwise poll TIP at most once/hour and decay once/day.
