Steps

  1. Request Asset Management API access via public.railinc.com/developers/get-started, specifying Component Tracking.
  2. Authenticate as a registered Component Registry participant (components are registered by manufacturers/reconditioners at time of manufacture or assembly).
  3. Call Query Component by Component Features, providing wheel serial number plus stamped manufacturer code/year/month for wheelsets, cast year+month+manufacturer+pattern/serial number for bolsters/sideframes, or catalog/cast/serial number for couplers.
  4. Alternatively call Query Component by Component ID or Query Component by Equipment ID if you already have a registered component ID or its affiliated equipment ID.
  5. Confirm the queried component matches an active registration in the Umler Component Registry before using it downstream.
