Documented steps Clear the lock on the latest version of an object: mc retention clear ALIAS/bucket/object.txt. Clear the bucket default object-lock policy: mc retention clear --default ALIAS/bucket. Clear locks recursively under a prefix: mc retention clear --recursive ALIAS/bucket/prefix/. Clear a specific version (requires versioning): mc retention clear --version-id <vid> ALIAS/bucket/object.txt. Clear all versions: mc retention clear --versions ALIAS/bucket/object.txt.
Known gotchas Compliance-mode and legal-held objects cannot be cleared before expiry — clearing fails or has no effect while the lock is in force. Legal hold overrides retention: use mc legalhold clear instead for legally-held objects. --version-id is mutually exclusive with --versions/--rewind/--recursive. Requires object locking enabled on the bucket. Official docs: https://docs.min.io/aistor/reference/cli/mc-retention/
