Steps
Treat ISO 9001 (or AS9100 for aerospace) as the facility-wide quality management system baseline covering documented procedures, corrective action, and management review
Treat Nadcap as a special-process accreditation layered on top, verifying a specific process (e.g., chromium plating, anodizing) meets industry-consensus technical requirements
Confirm which one, or both, the customer's purchase order or drawing actually requires, since aerospace primes frequently require Nadcap for special processes even from AS9100-certified suppliers
Recognize that Nadcap audits go deeper into process-specific technical controls (bath chemistry, equipment calibration, process specs) than a generic ISO 9001 surveillance audit
Avoid marketing Nadcap accreditation for a process the shop has not actually been audited/accredited for, even if the facility holds ISO 9001 or AS9100
Known gotchas
Holding ISO 9001/AS9100 does not imply Nadcap accreditation for any process — they come from different bodies (ISO registrars vs. the Performance Review Institute) with different scopes
Nadcap accreditation is granted per process, so a facility can be accredited for one special process while completely unaccredited for another it also performs
