Documented steps

  1. Install the plugin: npm i -D @vitejs/plugin-basic-ssl.
  2. Import and add basicSsl() to the plugins array in vite.config: import basicSsl from '@vitejs/plugin-basic-ssl'; plugins: [basicSsl()].
  3. Start the dev server - it now serves over https with a locally generated self-signed cert.
  4. Accept the self-signed cert in your browser (dev-only); for production use a real CA/edge TLS.
