Steps
Confirm Universal Analytics fully sunset and stopped being available as of July 1, 2024 per Google's official UA sunset notice
Identify any code still calling the old Core Reporting API (v4) — that documentation now redirects to the sunset notice at developers.google.com/analytics/legacy/universal-analytics
Provision a GA4 property (if not already done) and obtain credentials scoped to the Google Analytics Data API instead of the legacy reporting API
Re-map old UA dimensions/metrics to their GA4 Data API equivalents, since GA4's event-based model does not have a 1:1 field mapping
Rebuild historical reporting/dashboards using GA4-only data, since UA historical data was deleted after sunset and cannot be recovered via any API
Known gotchas
Don't assume a specific "stopped processing new data" date earlier than July 1, 2024 unless you verify it directly — that earlier milestone appears only in secondary sources
UA and GA4 use fundamentally different data models (session-based vs. event-based) — a straight endpoint swap will not produce equivalent numbers
All UA historical data is gone; there is no API to backfill it after the sunset
