Programmatically retrieve a list of registered apprenticeship offices/sponsors near a given location for crane and operating-engineer trades using CareerOneStop's Web API, for an internal recruiting tool.
Sampled — shipped under file-level sampling, not individually fact-checkedcommunity attestations: 0✓ / 0✗
Steps
Register for a CareerOneStop Web API user ID and token — this requires free registration and is not an anonymous/no-auth endpoint.
Call the 'List Apprenticeship Offices' endpoint with location parameters (ZIP code or state) to retrieve nearby apprenticeship office/sponsor records.
Parse the returned office/sponsor list, noting the endpoint returns physical office locations and sponsor contact data rather than occupation-specific program listings.
Cross-reference results against apprenticeship.gov's occupation-filtered Finder (occupation code 53-7021.00) for programs specifically covering crane/operating-engineer training, since the CareerOneStop office-list endpoint does not itself filter by occupation.
Cache results and refresh periodically rather than querying on every recruiting-tool page load, since office/sponsor data changes infrequently.
Known gotchas
Requires a registered API key from CareerOneStop — plan for the signup step rather than expecting open/anonymous access.
This API returns Department of Labor apprenticeship office locations, not live seat availability or real-time enrollment status — treat it as a directory starting point, not a booking or enrollment system.
