Steps
Register as an Aladdin Connect integration partner to get OAuth 2.0 client credentials — Genie moved the platform to OAuth-based partner access and retired the prior unauthenticated API.
Use the official Genie-Garage/aladdin-python-sdk (AladdinConnectClient) as a reference implementation for the authorization code flow and door-control calls.
Alternatively, use Home Assistant's built-in Aladdin Connect integration, which handles the OAuth flow via Home Assistant Cloud and exposes each door as a cover entity plus a battery-level diagnostic sensor.
Poll for door state (open/opening/closed/closing); communication is cloud-based (roughly 15-second polling in the Home Assistant integration) with no local/LAN control.
Call the open/close action against a specific door your authenticated account owns.
Known gotchas
Genie deprecated the older unauthenticated Aladdin Connect API for OAuth; libraries built against the old API (older AIOAladdinConnect versions) stopped working and require migration.
Only doors owned by the authenticated account are accessible — doors shared to your account by another user are not exposed via the API.
There is no position control or local fallback; a cloud/internet outage takes control offline entirely.
