Reserve elastomeric sealant for joints specifically designed to accommodate differential thermal and moisture movement (expansion joints, joints at dissimilar materials, joints spanning structural movement points) — never substitute sealant for mortar in the general wythe/field joints, which need mortar's rigidity and bond
