Documented steps

  1. Install `cloudflared` from the Cloudflare Tunnel downloads page; if you have an older copy, update to version 2020.5.1 or later
  2. Make sure your web server is reachable on localhost (e.g. on port 8080)
  3. Run `cloudflared tunnel --url http://localhost:8080`
  4. cloudflared connects to Cloudflare's edge and prints a random `trycloudflare.com` URL; traffic to it is proxied to your localhost service
  5. Share that URL while the process runs; stop cloudflared to end the tunnel
  6. For production traffic, create a remotely-managed named Cloudflare Tunnel instead of a quick tunnel
