Confirm you're on WAweb (web-based), not desktop Weatherization Assistant v8 — DOE ended the WAv8 download package and user support on July 1, 2024, requiring WAP grantees to migrate to WAweb or another DOE-approved tool by Program Year 2024.
Use the four WAweb tools appropriate to the dwelling type: NEAT (National Energy Audit Tool) for single-family, MHEA (Manufactured Housing Energy Audit) for manufactured homes, MulTEA for multifamily, and the Health and Safety Audit Tool.
Reference ORNL's Weatherization Assistant Getting Started Guide (v2, weatherization.ornl.gov) for current UI/workflow guidance rather than older WAv8-era manuals.
If building a third-party integration, check with ORNL/DOE on the current status of WAweb-API before assuming a stable public API exists — it was still in development at time of writing, not general availability.
Known gotchas
Many older training materials and state manuals still reference "NEAT" as a standalone desktop tool; today it's a module inside WAweb, and standalone WAv8 is unsupported.
WAweb-API is a forward-looking integration path, not a currently documented public API — don't promise a client a live integration against it without confirming current availability with ORNL/DOE.
