Steps
Go to floridabuilding.org, open the Product Approval menu, and use the search (pr_app_srch.aspx) to look up the product by approval number, manufacturer, or category
Note the state system's listed categories are exterior doors, impact protective systems, panel walls, roofing, shutters, skylights, structural components, and windows; shade/awning products often get approved under panel walls or structural components rather than a dedicated awning category
Verify the approval status (approved, pending, disapproved) and expiration/revision date shown in the record
Cross-reference with the local AHJ, since some jurisdictions (notably Miami-Dade/Broward HVHZ) require the county NOA in addition to or instead of the state approval
For scope questions, contact the Florida Building Codes and Standards Section directly rather than relying solely on the online listing
Known gotchas
The floridabuilding.org search tool is dated ASP-era software; searching by exact approval number is more reliable than searching by product name
Statewide approval does not exempt a project inside a High-Velocity Hurricane Zone from also needing Miami-Dade/Broward NOA
