Steps

  1. Create a Site Profile account at portal.firewise.org and form a resident-led committee (3-5 representatives, including a designated Resident Leader), for a community of at least 8 and no more than 2,500 dwelling units
  2. Complete the Firewise USA Community Risk Assessment for the site
  3. Draft a prioritized Action Plan for risk-reduction projects (including vegetation management/clearing) and homeowner education activities
  4. Submit the Firewise USA Application through the portal, uploading the Risk Assessment and Action Plan, then respond to any revision requests from the CAL FIRE/NFPA review team
  5. Once recognized, complete annual renewal reporting and update the Risk Assessment every 5 years and the Action Plan at least every 3 years
