Reference ANSI/TIA-568.4-D (Broadband Coaxial Cabling and Components Standard, published June 2017 — still the current edition, as no -E has been issued for this sub-document).
Use 75-ohm coax (RG-6 for standard drops, RG-11 for longer runs) per the standard's recognized cable types.
Confirm the cable meets TIA-568.4-D's diameter and construction limits for RG-6 (including quad-shield variants for direct-burial/outdoor use).
Verify insertion-loss performance across the standard's specified frequency range (roughly 5 MHz to just over 1 GHz) to support CATV, satellite, and broadband applications.
Respect the standard's drop-length limit between distribution points (roughly 150 ft / 46 m for typical RG-6 runs) — use RG-11 or active distribution equipment for longer spans.
Known gotchas
Don't assume RG-6 quality is generic — shielding effectiveness and connector compatibility vary by manufacturer even within the "RG-6" name, and TIA-568.4-D's insertion-loss limits will expose lower-quality cable.
Coax drop length limits are shorter than typical Cat6/6A copper runs — a drop layout copied from a data-cabling plan without checking coax-specific distance limits can end up out of spec.
