Join ASHI at the Associate Member level by submitting an application and passing the ASHI Standard of Practice and Code of Ethics modules
Progress to the Inspector membership level per ASHI's published experience criteria
Submit valid proof of the required number of fee-paid home inspections meeting or exceeding the ASHI Standard of Practice
Complete all remaining Associate and Inspector level requirements
Apply for the ASHI Certified Inspector (ACI) designation, which is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies
Known gotchas
ACI is the top of a three-tier system (Associate, Inspector, ACI) — new members always start at the Associate level regardless of prior outside experience
The fee-paid inspection count required for ACI must be SOP-compliant — unpaid or non-compliant inspections do not count
