Steps
Use the Find Care search at childcare.virginia.gov/find-care to look up providers by locality and program type (Child Day Center, Family Day Home, Short-Term Child Day Center, religiously exempt, voluntary registered, or certified preschool)
Check 'Search Only Current Subsidy Providers' to filter specifically for CCDF/subsidy-eligible vendors
Open a result to view inspection dates and click through to inspection summaries and any violations
Search using the most distinctive part of a facility's name; exact punctuation/spacing mismatches can return no results
Cross-reference with Virginia Quality Birth to Five (earlychildhoodquality.doe.virginia.gov) for quality-rating context beyond licensing status
Known gotchas
Effective July 1, 2026, Virginia is transitioning the term 'family day home' to 'home-based child care' (and 'family day system' to 'home-based child care system') under HB258; both terms appear interchangeably during the transition
This is a legacy ASP-based search UI with no documented public API — treat it as a manual/browser tool, not an integration point
