Download broadband availability data via the FCC Broadband Data Collection (BDC) Public Data API

Steps

1. Register a free account at bdc.fcc.gov, then generate an API token under your user menu's Manage API Access -> Generate, after agreeing to the Terms of Use.
2. Authenticate Public Data API requests with your username and the generated token (not OAuth).
3. Use the Public Data API to programmatically pull availability data by state, provider, or technology instead of manually downloading files from the National Broadband Map UI — consult the current spec/swagger referenced from fcc.gov/BroadbandData for exact endpoint paths, since this route could not independently re-verify every path.
4. Keep the Public Data API (read, for consuming availability data) distinct from the separate Filer API (write, for ISPs submitting or disputing challenge data, with its own Python reference client) — they share BDC API branding but serve different purposes.
5. Expect bulk queries to be rate-limited/chunked similar to the Filer API's reference implementation, which defaults to batching around 1,000 records at a time.
