Steps Register a free account at openchargemap.org and generate an API key under My Profile > My Apps > Register An Application Call the /poi endpoint at base URL https://api.openchargemap.io/v3 to fetch charge points within a bounding box or near a lat/long Call the /referencedata endpoint to resolve lookup IDs for connection types, operators, and countries referenced in POI records Pass the API key via the X-API-Key header (case sensitive) or a key= URL parameter Cross-reference returned operator/connector IDs against the reference data set before displaying results to end users Known gotchas The API key header name is case-sensitive (X-API-Key) POI data is community-maintained/crowdsourced, so availability/status fields are advisory, not authoritative real-time state Reference data must be fetched separately to decode numeric IDs in POI responses; it is not embedded inline by default
