Steps Submit an audio or video file for transcription via POST /v2/transcript and wait for status to become completed. Call GET /v2/transcript/{id}/srt to export SRT captions, or /v2/transcript/{id}/vtt for WebVTT. Optionally append the chars_per_caption query parameter to control the maximum characters shown per caption line. Save the returned caption text directly, or feed it into a captioning pipeline or video player. For EU-region accounts, call the same endpoints against api.eu.assemblyai.com instead of the default host. Known gotchas Subtitle export only works once a transcript has finished processing; calling it while status is queued or processing fails. chars_per_caption only indirectly affects segmentation; there is no separate parameter to directly control caption duration or gap timing. EU accounts must use the region-specific API host for every call in the transcript's lifecycle, not just creation.
